Urgent donations needed for seriously injured dog

No More Tears Animal Rescue and the local vet are doing all they can to give Grace a second shot at life.

Grace a mixed-breed dog needs the public’s help for a second chance in life.

Grace sustained life-threatening injuries and required urgent medical care after it was suspected that she was hit by a vehicle last month.

According to Stephan Hendricks, a volunteer for No More Tears Animal Rescue, they received a distressed call from a woman claiming that she spotted a dog trying to cross the R28 near a mall during the early hours of December 13. He added that after investigating it was evident that the dog was likely to be hit by a vehicle.

Grace was found on the R28 with two broken legs and multiple impact wounds.

Hendricks added that Grace had sustained multiple injuries upon impact, including a broken front and hind leg.

Dr Johan Naudé, a veterinarian from the Randfontein Animal Hospital, also noticed Grace was pregnant but sadly, the puppies could not be saved. In addition, Dr Naudé had to amputate Grace’s hind leg due to the severity of the injury.

An X-ray result of Grace’s broken hind leg before amputation.

Currently, Hendricks said that Grace’s leg has been successfully amputated, and is her condition stable. However, she still needs medical attention.

“The treatment that Grace receives and still has to undergo will cost about R10 000. Very few donations have been made for Grace but we will continue with treatment with the hope that we will get enough donations to cover the bill. Grace deserves a second chance at life,” he pleads.

Hendricks is appealing to the public to donate towards Grace’s treatment.
