A child entered the pharmacy while the robbery was in progress and noticed an armed person and screamed for help.

Four suspects were arrested and will face the full might of the law, following a robbery at a pharmacy in Mohlakeng.

This is from Randfontein Station Commander Brigadier Jacob Manamela who said the incident occurred on December 19 at about 4pm.

“Initially, three men entered a pharmacy on Ralerata Street in Mohlakeng while the pharmacist and two co-workers were busy with their duties.

“It is during this time that the perpetrators pointed at the staff to lie on the ground and proceeded to take cellphones belonging to the victims. They took boxes of medication as well before fleeing from the scene.

“However, while this was underway, a child entered the pharmacy with the robbery in progress and noticed an armed perpetrator. The child then screamed for help and a member of the community responded.

“As the perpetrators exited the pharmacy, the community member grabbed one of the perpetrators but was overpowered and pushed to the ground,” said Manamela.

He added that the perpetrators managed to jump into their getaway vehicle and sped off into oncoming traffic.
Crime Prevention Wardens spotted their getaway vehicle and gave chase and were assisted by another member of the community in his private vehicle.

The perpetrators then abandoned the chase and jumped out of their vehicle. They fled in different directions.

“One of the perpetrators who was armed was apprehended by the police along with his firearm, which had its serial numbers filed off.

“As a result, the 15 boxes of different medications were recovered, and the three cellphones belonging to the victims,” said Manamela.
