Stray dog Whisper is a fighter! Now he needs your help

Whisper the dog is fighting to stay healthy after being found lying in a field in a horrific condition.

A stray dog found in a shocking condition in an open field fighting for his life now needs help to recover.

Whisper is a German shepherd cross-breed and is believed to be about 10 years of age.

Louisa Rossouw, founder and director of the Cast Aways Animal Sanctuary explained that he was found lying in a field when a Kagiso resident saw him. The man then covered Whisper in a piece of fabric before calling the Homestead Animal Hospital for assistance in the matter. When Dr Lottie Carr examined Whisper he was in a shocking condition. Maggots started eating away at his flesh and he suffered extreme malnutrition. Even Whisper’s hind legs were injured which meant he could not walk.

“We did not think that Whisper would make it the first night but by God’s love and grace, he is still with us,” Rossouw said.

According to Rossouw, Dr Lottie immediately started treatment with pain medication, antibiotics, and an IV drip. Dr Lottie said that Whisper is doing much better than before and that he has a good chance to experience care and love without pain. Whisper also receives physiotherapy through a foster that agreed to help him improve his mobility.

The animal sanctuary helps with neglected or abandoned animals. This organisation offers the animals proper medical assistance as well as rehabilitation so that the animals can be adopted into a new home. The sanctuary has been helping animals since 2018 and they currently have 130 dogs and 225 cats in their care.

The animal hospital, however, is still facing some challenges. Offering Whisper the right medical attention and therapy will cost a lot financially. Therefore, the animal hospital is appealing to anyone who might give donations for Whisper to receive proper medical assistance. If any donations can be made contact the Homestead Animal Hospital on 082 579 8399 or Cast Aways on 072 812 3333.
