R’fontein’s Charlotte van Wyk a SterStatus achiever

Three women made the West Rand proud in their SterStatus journey. They are now looking forward to the charitable work lying ahead.

After an incredible journey of excitement, hard work and glamour, SterStatus Season 5 ended with three women from the West Rand being among the title holders.

Samantha Thompson, Monique Basson and Charlotte van Wyk were successful in their journey in empowering many women and girls and they explained what it took to wear the crown. The three women come from Roodepoort, Roodekrans and Randfontein respectively.

SterStatus is a women empowerment organisation that aims to uplift young women and girls in bettering themselves and society. It also gives a platform for the less vulnerable people to let their voices be heard. It is a celebration of women’s empowerment and the pursuit of destiny. It is a platform for any young woman between the ages of 18 to 40 to pursue her dreams in the limelight. All contestants entering SterStatus will form part of the local charity, Fabulous Girls Charity Foundation. Giving back to the community, serving and empowering forms a big part of the vision and mission that the initiative and organisation stand for.

For these beauties, the journey to empowering fellow women and taking part in community initiatives was memorable as each of them would win amazing titles after all their hard work.

Samantha Thompson won a Charity title being the second runner-up in that category with Charlotte van Wyk taking the first runner-up title in the same category. Monique Basson picked up three titles in the Best Producer Award, the Social Media Award, and Best Production Performance in those respective categories.

The three women were very ecstatic at their achievements, having learned very valuable lessons.

Samantha had much to say and cannot wait to get involved in more charitable work.

“My head is already spinning. Where do I start and when do I give back to my community? My love and heart are with children and the elderly. I want to reach out to the elderly in homes as they don’t get enough. And I want to reach out to schools with children that struggle with self-confidence. Children who feel less worthy. I want to spread my inspiration across to as many children as possible,” Samantha said proudly.

An emotional Monique said she was so proud to be among the winners.

“I’ve come to realise that I have room for more roles in my life other than being a loving wife, a mother that wears her cricket badge with pride and a caring friend. That it is never too late to start something new or to start again. To practice like you’ve never won, to perform like you’ve never lost, to find your balance, and to stay true to who you are in a world that is trying to change who you are, to redefine 40-something.

“I heard this quote the other day that really impacted me and it said ‘…you’re suffering from self-doubt while others are intimidated by your true potential’. So chase those dreams even if it scares you. Start scared. Start messy. Start imperfectly. Just start,” Monique said.
