Friends and family paid their final respect to late struggle stalwart Solly Shomang.

This was on October 17 at the Dan Tloome Community Hall following the passing of Shomang due to ill health.

People came out in their numbers to pay their final respects to the late struggle stalwart Solly Shomang.

He was actively involved in the fight for freedom and worked closely with former presidents Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe, among other politicians who served in parliament.

Speaking at the memorial service, Shomang’s long-time friend Steve Mazibuko described him as a kind individual, who was compassionate towards other people.

“Solly was very instrumental in the lives of many people here in Randfontein, particularly in Finsbury and in Dan Tloome, as he resided in these two places. He was able to offer a helping hand to those who were in need and he always shared the little that he had with others.

“I honestly had some good times with him and he will be dearly missed,” said Mazibuko, who extended his condolences to his family and asked them to be strong during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, Shoman’s funeral service will be held at 951 Dipana Street in Doornkop on October 19.
