The RandWest SPCA's Westonaria branch urgently needs funds to properly repair and upgrade animal kennels.

Kennels at the RandWest SPCA’s Westonaria branch are in a bad state and deteriorating by the day.

Management has since appealed to the community for either donations or assistance to repair and replace them.

A social media user brought the matter to the community’s attention when he claimed that the Westonaria branch has kennels that are damaged and old.

According to RandWest SPCA chairperson Brenda Eloff, the kennels were inaccessible to do any proper maintenance throughout the years. Eloff further stated that the kennels are becoming a danger for the animals due to fence wiring and rusty framework.

Unfortunately, only 26 kennels out of 50 kennels can be used to keep animals.

Dangerous fence wiring which poses a risk to the animals.

“We cannot put the animals’ lives at risk by keeping them in the damaged kennels,” Eloff said.

As reported by Eloff, donations for the repair of the kennels are welcome and any amount of funds is acceptable. Eloff also asserts that every cent they receive goes directly into a savings account.

At least R20 000 is needed to repair one or two kennels. In early November this year, the RandWest SPCAs Westonaria branch plans to repair their first kennel.
