Dog euthanised after being found with serious head wound

RandWest SPCA reveals dog was found in an atrocious state and never received any veterinary treatment for at least two days.

A dog found to have sustained a serious wound to the head had to be euthanised.

This was done by the RandWest SPCA on October 4.

According to Rand West SPCA manager Naomi de Beer, the dog was found in an atrocious state in Toekomsrus.

“We were contacted by someone who asked us to assist in collecting a dog that seemed to have been in extreme pain. Inspector Rene van Straten immediately responded and upon arrival at that particular address, it looked like the dog suffered a blow to the head. She tried to engage with the owner but he only expressed concern about who made contact with us, instead of the dog’s well-being,” said De Beer.

She added that the dog had been left in that condition for at least two days and it had never received any veterinary treatment.

According to De Beer, more information about whether or not any action will be taken against the owner of the dog will be revealed as soon as it becomes available.

The SPCA further urges people to contact them on 011 412 3114 should they have any information regarding cases of animal cruelty in their communities.
