Criminals target SPCA yet again

The RandWest SPCA revealed they have suffered a second break-in within a space of two weeks and repairs could cost an estimated R30 000 to R40 000.

The RandWest SPCA has fallen victim to crime once again in a space of less than two weeks.

This is according to the organisation’s manager Naomi de Beer, who said that the latest incident occurred on October 9.

Speaking to the Randfontein Herald in an interview, De Beer said she discovered their offices were broken into only the following day (October 10).

“I went to work as normal and upon arrival, I stopped at the gate and that’s when I realised that our razor wire was cut. I immediately pressed my panic button and that’s when our security company came out. We came to realise that the fence was cut in three places and upon further inspection, we saw that the suspects broke into the office through our boardroom window,” said De Beer.

She added that during this time, they also found the floors in their boardroom soaking wet as water was coming from their geyser.

RandWest SPCA manager Naomi de Beer said replacing the stolen cables will cost thousands.

“The people who broke into our place literally stripped all the cables from our electrical box including those that ran by the floor and up to the ceiling. They also took out all the copper pipes in the roof and those connected to the geyser, thus leaving the geyser leaking the entire time,” she added.

Asked about the damages incurred, De Beer fears that repairs could cost an estimated R30 000 to R40 000.

She added that a case was opened at the police station and does hope that those responsible will face the full might of the law.

In late September, chairperson Brenda Eloff revealed the SPCA suffered another break-in which forced them to spend thousands of rands on damages. Eloff said the burglars shattered the boardroom’s window and cut the safety bars with bolt cutters. She further stated that they stole copper wires from the electrical box.
