10 learners injured in school bus crash

About 22 children were in transit at the time and a total of 10 injuries were recorded.

A total of 10 learners from the Greenlight Academy School were injured when the school bus they were travelling in veered off the road and crashed into a tree.

This was on October 11 on Homestead Avenue, near the Robbin Park train station.

According to Randfontein station manager for Gauteng EMS Dennis Tsholetsane, 22 learners were in transit at the time.

“A school bus was loaded with kids and according to the source, the driver of the bus hit a pothole, lost control of the vehicle and subsequently hit a tree.

Ten learners from the Greenlight Academy School were injured after their school bus collided with a tree.

“Only one of the learners is in a slightly critical condition and the rest are in moderate condition,” said Tsholetsane, who was busy gathering information at the scene upon the Randfontein Herald’s arrival.

The bus driver managed to escape unharmed and those who suffered injuries were rushed to different hospitals across the region.

The Herald also spoke to one of the school directors, James Harod, who was called out to the scene.

“We don’t know what happened. The driver was taking the learners home and we just got a call that he was involved in an accident,” said Harod.
