Another break-in at SPCA

The RandWest SPCA is appealing to the community for any assistance following yet another break-in.

Yet another burglary has forced the RandWest SPCA to spend thousands of rands on damages.

For chairperson Brenda Eloff this comes as no surprise as she claims break-ins occur there often saying, “It happens about every three to four months. My personal feeling is, because we are out of sight, we are an easy target.”

The most recent break-in took place sometime during the night of September 27.

Eloff said the burglars shattered the boardroom’s window and cut the safety bars with bolt cutters. She further stated that they stole copper wires from the electrical box.

“There is no information about the culprits who did this, however, the matter has been brought to the police’s attention. All burglaries are reported to the police, no matter how small it is.”

The SPCA is, however, thankful to Patience Glass Works for having already replaced the broken window.

“They were wonderful and always willing to help,” Eloff said.

Although Eloff is grateful for the help she received, she conveys her financial situation. She told the Randfontein Herald that the replacement of the window and the safety bars cost the SPCA R3 500. To replace the stolen cables, Eloff said that it cost a further R19 000.
