LETTER: Why is withdrawing cash in Ten Acres such a problem?

Resident writes how it is a struggle for Ten Acres residents to withdraw money and that shop owners have an attitude in this regard.

I think I am writing this on behalf of many community members of Ten Acres.

People are struggling to withdraw money since the bombing of ATMs along Main Road in July and some shop owners are not very helpful either. When you want to draw money they charge you extra. They complain if you want to check your balance and further argue that they are not a bank.

The nearest ATMs from Ten Acres are at a retail and liquor store in another area. Most of the people here have no transport and it takes them an hour or more to walk to the closest major retail store.

The shop owners are also not prepared to get ATMs as they say it is too much of a problem. They rather risk the fact that they lose customers with their attitude.
