Nominate the great women in sport now!

If you know a great woman in sport and want to honour her or her team you can now nominate them for a Gauteng Sports Awards.

As a reward to stars for keeping the spirit of sports alive, the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation created the Gauteng Sports Awards.

This provides the opportunity for women in sports in the West Rand to be acknowledged and praised for their commitment, talent, and love for their sport at a Women in Sports Awards.

Women will be honoured for the following categories:

• Sportswoman of the year
• Sports team of the year
• Sportswoman of the year with a disability
• Sports team of the year with a disability
• Most promising athlete of the year
• Most promising athlete with a disability
• School sport athlete of the year
• School sport athlete with a disability of the year
• Most promising team of the year
• Most promising team with a disability of the year
• Community-based sport and recreation program of the year
• Coach of the year
• Technical Official of the year
• Administrator of the year
• Sports fan of the year
• Community “Voters Choice”
• Sports personality of the year
• Community Sports Journalist of the Year
• Lifetime Achievement award

If you want to nominate an outstanding woman in sport there are a few ways you can do it. You can go to the website www.wis@wrsc.gov.za and follow the Women in Sports Association (WISA) link. You can also email the nomination form to wis@wrsc.org.za and include the nomination form, sports CV of the nominee in PDF format, one ID-type photo, and an action photo. Alternatively, drop the above-mentioned documents in the delivery drop-off boxes at appointed points.

Registration of nominations can be placed in a sealed envelope and deposited into entry boxes at the following points:

Mogale City:
• Kagiso Mall
• Kagiso Mall Shoprite
• Krugersdorp Police Station
• Krugersdorp Library
• Key West Shopping Centre
• President Hyper

Magaliesburg:
• Choppies, 41 Rustenburg Road

Randfontein:
• Shoprite Mohlakeng Square
• Randfontein Traffic Department
• West Rand District office
• Tambotie Mall
• Randfontein Police Station

Merafong:
• Merafong City Municipality
• Merafong Shoprite
• Fochville President Hyper

The nomination process is open until October 10. The closing date for voting will be October 25.

The technical requirements for the generic nomination criteria are as follows:

• The nominee must be a West Rand District resident as well as a South African citizen
• Period to be considered is between 2 and 5 years
• Nominees must be female – athletes, coaches, and technical officials, and must be registered members of a West Rand Sports organisation for the specified time of consideration
• Nominations will only be accepted on the official nomination forms and format provided for nominations
