More concerns over Dan Tloome mega housing project

Members of the opposition party visited residents to get a sense of their living conditions.

The DA conducted an oversight visit at the Dan Tloome mega housing project in the Wheatlands area to inspect the area and the state that it is currently in.

This was on September 21 when members of the opposition party visited residents in the area to get a sense of their living conditions. Resident Lindiwe Ximba said her living conditions have been appalling, to say the least.

“I was allocated a flat back in 2021 and before that, I had been waiting for my house for more than 20 years. Although I’m happy to have a roof over my head, I’m experiencing problems with my house already. The walls are cracked and there are also cracks in the toilet. We constantly have problems with water and the sewerage,” said Ximba.

She added that a lot of residents feel the same.

Meanwhile, DA Shadow MEC for Human Settlements Mervyn Cirota said that it was evident that residents continue to suffer due to terrible infrastructure and the lack of basic service delivery.

“Residents of the neglected Dan Tloome mega housing project continue to suffer due to terrible infrastructure and a severe lack of basic service delivery in the area. The housing units were not properly built; the walls are cracking, and the geysers are leaking. The infrastructure is on the verge of collapsing and won’t last longer should it not be fixed. There is no regular refuse removal, and crime is a major issue,” said Cirota.

Just last month, the party also did an oversight visit at the Western Mega Project in Toekomsrus.

This was when they highlighted the lack of bulk infrastructure such as sewer, water, and electricity connections in the area.

At the time, the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements’ head of communications, Tahir Sema, said the bulk infrastructure of any project is rolled out in phases.
