Municipality warns of jobs scam

The municipality recently advertised a string of job opportunities available within the institution, where specific requirements were stipulated for each one.

The Rand West City Local Municipality is urging people to be vigilant and not fall prey to a jobs scam that is making the rounds in different communities across Randfontein and Westonaria, including on social media platforms.

This comes after the municipality recently advertised a string of job opportunities available within the institution, where specific requirements were stipulated for each one.

This saw job scams surfacing throughout the region, which were brought to the Randfontein Herald’s attention.

In a statement released, the municipality’s spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa said no jobs or positions are being sold at the institution.

“Please be advised that the municipality operates with the highest level of integrity and does not engage in the unethical practice of selling jobs.

“We therefore affirm that job positions are not available for sale and will never be offered for sale.

“Furthermore, the municipality has a zero-tolerance policy for any personnel who attempts to sell jobs. All applications are treated equally and fairly and applicants are assessed based on their qualifications

“Communities should be wary of individuals who pose as municipality employees and offer job opportunities. It is advisable to verify the authenticity of the individuals claiming to be municipality employees offering job opportunities,” said Montshiwa who added that this will help prevent any potential scams or fraudulent activities.
