Liquor and cash stolen during break-in

A break-in, theft at a business and vandalism were all recorded as serious crimes by a local security company.

One crime is one too many and local security company Mapogo A Mathamaga revealed two serious crimes in Rand West City for the period from September 6 to 8.

The first involved a business break-in and theft in Homelake on September 6 where perpetrators gained entry into the property by climbing up the side of the stairs. It was during this time that the armed response units of Mapogo were dispatched and upon arrival, the perpetrators evaded arrest by jumping to a neighbouring roof and running away.

However, an unknown amount of money and liquor was stolen.

Mapogo’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen said they then responded to another incident involving vandalism in Lourie Street, Greenhills on September 9.

“An alarm went off at the premises and armed reaction units were dispatched. Upon arrival, they came across a person who claimed to be renting the premises from the owner. The armed reaction officers proceeded to do an inspection and found that a gate and the garage door of the property in question had been forced open. The owner of the property was contacted by our control room who confirmed that he does not know the person claiming to rent the property. The suspect was then arrested and upon further investigation, it became evident that the house was vandalised inside,” said Vermeulen.

He added that the perpetrator was eventually handed over to Randfontein police.
