Man and two women hijacked in Helikon Park, dropped off in Lenasia

Latest crime statistics revealed a hijacking in Cormorant Street and more.

A resident and two elderly women managed to get away unharmed after they were forced into a car and driven towards Lenasia where they were dumped by a group of six hijackers.

The hijacking and armed robbery occurred at the man’s residence in Cormorant Street, Helikon Park on September 2.

Mapogo A Mathamaga operations manager Danie Vermeulen said the man and the two women were attacked at his gate and forced into the house where the suspects proceeded to demand money.

“Six hijackers overpowered the owner of the property at his gate and forced him into the house. They then assaulted him and demanded money. The owner of the property handed over cash to the hijackers after which they forced him and two elderly women into a vehicle and drove towards Lenasia where they were dropped off. The hijackers managed to escape with an unknown amount of money, jewellery, a cellphone, and the vehicle, which was later recovered by a car tracking company.”

Meanwhile, in a separate incident on August 30, the security company responded to an incident of business break-in and theft on Main Reef Road in Randfontein.

This comes after perpetrators gained entry by breaking a window leading into a shop and stealing a delivery motorcycle. The motorcycle in question was recovered in close vicinity to the business.

Another incident attended to was that of theft in Northway Street in Greenhills on August 31 where a perpetrator was spotted by reaction officer Kevin Kotze while stealing a children’s bicycle and other toys at the premises. He managed to get away but Kotze was able to recover one of the items and handed it back to the rightful owner.

Lastly, another case of trespassing and theft occurred on Homestead Avenue in Homelake on September 3, when robbers gained access by jumping over a palisade perimeter fence and stealing three gas bottles.
