Entrepreneurship day at RCA to welcome spring

While some of the learners had to count on their parents when it came to calculating a customer's change, others seemed to have been on top of their game.

Scores of learners from Randfontein Christian Academy lined up the stalls and took part in the school’s entrepreneurship day.

This was on September 1 at the school premises where some of them were assisted by their parents and guardians. The Randfontein Herald was invited to the school to see the learners in action. They had different items at their stalls such as cupcakes, donuts, cold drinks and sweets among other items.

Tshegofatso Dlamini and Geraldo Adriaanse paired for the school’s entrepreneurship day and were selling different items to the learners at their school.

While some of the learners leaned to their parents when it came to calculating a customer’s change, others seemed to have been on top of their game.

Organiser of the event and teacher at the school, Nandie Swart, said that the whole purpose of the event was to teach learners about what it takes to run a business.

Esther Padayachey together with her mom Shana Padayachey. The two were hands-on and sold different items at the school’s entrepreneurship day.

“We decided to have the entrepreneurship day to get the learners around and engage with one another through the selling and buying of items on their stalls. It’s also just another opportunity to teach them how to do business on a small scale and also teach them about responsibility and accountability. Whatever money they make out of this, they get to keep it and everyone was thrilled when we told them about our plans of hosting this event.

“We also want them to grasp the concepts of income and expenses and we hope that they can grow from this,” she said, who added that learners will win different prizes for the day.

These include prizes for the business stall that has the most decorations and those with the highest profit among other categories.

Wendeme Mungadi and Ntsako Ngomane paired up on the day and ran their stall together.

Meanwhile, the Herald also spoke to parent Marise Perold who said this was an awesome experience for both learners and parents at the school.

“They get to learn about the value of money and communicating with their clients and we also get to see them in action,” said Perold.

Another parent Shana Padayahchey said she too was thrilled about the entrepreneurship day and hoped that the items on their stall sell out before the end of the day.
