Mr and Miss AB Phokompe Secondary School for 2023 crowned

Glitz and glam mixed with a positive message to preserve our environment ensured that parents and learners were entertained at the recent Mr and Miss AB Phokompe Secondary School pageant.

Smangaliso Podumo and Molebogeng Sithole were crowned Mr and Miss AB Phokompe Secondary School for 2023.

Zandile Sogasa was crowned the second princess and Tshegofatso Hashanda the first princess while Thato Kgaje was announced the second prince and Omphemetse Sapa the first prince for the boys.

Learners could not contain their excitement on August 25 when the popular entertainer DJ Dipepa showed off his skills on the decks and soon enough everyone was dancing to the beat.

The school’s assembly area resembled a top international setting for the event. Contestants had to first doll themselves up with paper and plastic in recycled outfits, which could have been mistaken for international fashion show outfits.

Next up was the formal wear and long forgotten were the plastic bags and homemade fashion as they soon looked like real rock stars, however, to bring honour to the school they were crowned in their school uniforms.

“It is so pleasing to host an event of this kind, especially after a long time. This is the first pageant since Covid-19. What we realised is that beauty shows are still popular among our learners. We would like to thank the parents who came out to support their children. The ‘trash’ theme was to create environmental awareness and show our love for nature,” said deputy principal Nomfundo Phoshoko.
