Donate and help stop animal cruelty

The local SPCA needs financial assistance to carry out its mandate of inspecting animals in and around the region.

The RandWest SPCA is committed to fighting animal cruelty in different parts of the region but they cannot do it alone.

According to RandWest SPCA manager Naomi de Beer, they need assistance in the form of cash injections to carry out their mandate.

“The SPCA’s biggest mandate is to prevent animal cruelty. Therefore, we do not only react to complaints from public members, but we also conduct proactive inspections and routine inspections. This means we travel to less fortunate areas, whether it’s townships or community farms, and offer basic education and guidance on animal welfare. We also conduct unexpected routine inspections at facilities that house animals in any way.

“This includes abattoirs, sale yards, pet shops, breeders, grooming parlours, and stable yards and we also look at security animals and animals being used in sports as well as in exhibitions.

“With only one inspector and one field officer covering the whole RandWest area, one can imagine the workload, the amount of fuel we use, and vehicle maintenance expenses,” said De Beer, who added that residents and businesses can help by donating towards their inspectorate.
