Residents with bypassed meters urged to come forward

The municipality has granted amnesty to those who have illegal electricity and water connections.

Residents from different parts of Rand West City who have illegal electricity and water connections are asked to come forward as they will be granted amnesty.

This is according to Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said that this opportunity will be granted to residents until October 31.

Residents who have bypassed their water and electricity meters will be exempted and will not be fined for the illegal act.

“We are experiencing a problem with meters that are bypassed by the communities and all consumers who seek amnesty until October 31 will be granted amnesty,” said Montshiwa.

He added that residents should take note that there will be removal of bypasses, to ensure that residents abide by the law going forward and that the municipality can get its money’s worth when it comes to water and electricity coupons.
