Memorial for man slain on small farm set for August 26

A source close to the Smith family, who were victims of a small farm attack recently, confirmed memorial service details of the husband and called for financial support for the injured wife through BackaBuddy.

Family and friends will hold a memorial service for the man who was shot and killed on his small farm in Randridge recently.

Chairperson of the Stock Theft Information Centre and Rural Safety community in Randfontein, JP de Beer confirmed that the service will be held at the Old Apostolic Church in Greenhills from 10:00 on August 26.

The victim, Duwayne Smith, born on December 19, 1976, was shot multiple times and his wife was also shot and injured during the attack on their small farm in Randridge agricultural holdings just before 20:00 on August 3. They were both shot in front of their children aged eight and 10.

The Randfontein Herald spoke with De Beer at the time, regarding the incident who said, “We believe that the attack was not financially motivated as the perpetrator(s) did not take anything from the scene. Instead, they shot the family as they were pulling in the driveway,” said De Beer.

A BackaBuddy account has since been set up for Ingrid Smith who is currently recovering in a hospital.
