NGO to make a bigger impact in the lives of the needy

In their latest initiative, the Fepa Moagisani organisation hopes to raise enough money to purchase at least 81 pairs of school shoes that will benefit learners from Lukhanyo High School.

Local NGO Fepa Moagisani calls on residents and businesses to help them raise funds that will go towards buying school shoes for needy learners of Lukhanyo Secondary School in Mohlakeng.

The NGO was founded by Dimakatso Maimane together with her daughters Mpho Maimane and Mirriam Billy. They aim to address the poverty element in the different communities of Rand West City and they do this through their hot meal Saturday initiatives where they provide a hot meal to those in need. In addition, they also run winter and school shoe drives among other initiatives. So far, the organisation has purchased eight pairs of school shoes with their funds but the target is to buy at least 81 pairs.

Speaking to the Randfontein Herald, Billy said they want to have a bigger reach and make an impact in the lives of those less fortunate.

“Our initiatives are mainly centered around poverty alleviation and that’s our objective as an NGO. We want to implement poverty alleviation programmes within Randfontein and we do this through our hot meal Saturdays which we have every quarter of the year. What we do here is that we prepare a meal and then distribute it to a previously disadvantaged community. We want to build good relationships with the people that live there as well,” said Billy, who added that they also work with several schools in Randfontein.

To make a bigger impact and assist the needy, the NGO is now looking to partner with others who share the same mission and passion.

She believes that this will yield greater results and said that when they work as a collective, they can reach more people.
