Burst water pipe leads to little or no water supply

Rand West City Local Municipality said they are currently working on resolving the problem and predict water supply will be restored soon.

Residents in different parts of Rand West City who had little to no water supply can breathe a sigh of relief as repairs are well underway.

According to Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said a main water supply pipe ruptured on August 14 behind the Randfontein Police Station.

As a result, the water supply to the area was disrupted, including other parts of Mohlakeng. This pipe supplies water to the Westergloor reservoirs.

“To expedite the repair process, we have requested Rand Water to interrupt its supply to the Westergloor reservoirs and we also had to shut down the water pump at the Westergloor water tower to drop the high pressure. People from the relevant department worked overnight on August 15 and Rand Water is also on standby. Supply should be restored soon,” said Montshiwa, who added that in some areas, water pressure may be low or there may be no water at all.
