Man wanted for questioning in woman’s rape during a night out

Police have released an identity kit of a man wanted for questioning relating to a rape case.

The Carletonville Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is appealing to members of the community to assist with the whereabouts of a man who is wanted for questioning in a rape case.

The incident occurred on July 1 in Khutsong Extension 5 after the victim went to a tavern in the area and met up with her friend.

It is understood that during this time, the two enjoyed themselves and had drinks until the next morning at around 02:00 when the tavern was closing.

Captain Solomon Sibiya from the West Rand District Police said they then left the tavern and came across two men.

“The two women decided to leave the tavern and while walking home, the victim’s friend asked to be accompanied to her place of residence in Extension 4 to fetch a jersey. While en route to her place, they came across two men. One of them was known to the friend and he offered her a jersey to borrow. They all agreed to this and proceeded to go to the man’s house where he gave the woman a jersey, as initially planned,” said Sibiya.

He added that shortly after this, the victim’s friend and the male known to her left a nearby tavern to buy liquor and left the victim behind with another man at the residence.

“While her friend and the male were away, the man who she was left with, started advancing for sexual favours, but she refused. The man allegedly locked the door and drew a knife. He threatened the victim and started to undress her. He thereafter raped her. The man later went to the bathroom and that is when the victim managed to escape through the window. “

She ran home and on arrival related the incident to her sister.

Anyone with information which can lead to the whereabouts of this man (pictured) must immediately call the Carletonville FCS investigation officer Sergeant Gaobonwe on 076 371 0304 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
