Eight schools from in and around Randfontein have been granted the opportunity to upgrade their schools to the tune of R15 000 each.
This is all thanks to Cashbuild Randfontein which awarded the schools with vouchers, after winning the Art-at-Heart competition recently.
The hand-over ceremony took place at the branch in the Randfontein CBD on August 11 and forms part of their store’s relaunch programme.
Setholela Primary School and Patrick Mashego Primary School are two of the eight schools that received a building material voucher.
Speaking to the Randfontein Herald, Patrick Mashego principal Bongi Phakathi said the voucher couldn’t have come at a better time.
“We are very happy to have been identified as the winners. It comes at a time when we were already stressed as we were building classrooms but couldn’t finish the project, so the voucher will definitely come in handy. We are going to be using it towards completing the classrooms. This is surely a blessing in disguise,” said Phakathi.
Meanwhile, Setholela’s principal Nkululeko Ndhlovu said the cash injection will come in handy for the school.

“We are delighted. This voucher will be used towards erecting palisade fencing around the Grade R playground, as well as paving the grounds outside of the classrooms in the front of the school to cover the huge potholes,” said Ndhlovu.

Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 22 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 3 900 schools in Southern Africa with over R50m worth of building materials.
