Crime on the increase in Randfontein

A local security company said that there's a growing trend where outside alarm beams are being stolen.

Crime is on the increase in different parts of Randfontein, particularly housebreakings, and residents are urged to ensure that their security systems are safe and in good working condition.

This is according to Mapogo A Mathamaga operations manager Danie Vermeulen.

“Crime is definitely on the increase in the Randfontein area, we’ve experienced a lot of situations where outside alarm beams are being stolen. As a result, I’d like to urge residents to always test their alarm systems, at least once a week. It is also important that they test their panic buttons and get anti-theft brackets for their outside beams, to secure them and prevent them from being stolen.

“Criminals have been out and about recently and stealing outside alarm beans. They enter a person’s property and within three minutes they are out, stealing around six alarm beams at a time,” Vermeulen said.

He further urged residents to also check their alarm system batteries, as their life span is often compromised, due to load-shedding.
