Blocked sewers getting much-needed attention

The municipality initially said that this was the highest number of sewer blockages they’ve ever experienced.

Numerous areas in different parts of Rand West City had their sewer systems unblocked. Other areas are soon to follow.

This is according to Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said that repair work to the sewer blockages has been carried out to the different areas as initially promised.

He posted a list of areas that were affected by the blockages on social media platforms and community groups, which include the different suburbs in Randfontein, different parts of Toekomsrus, as well as different parts of Mohlakeng and Venterspost.

He also listed certain sections within Westonaria which were affected by this. Some have already been attended to, while some areas are yet to receive the much-needed attention.

“The municipality has a specialised fleet deployed across all our areas to respond to the increased incidents. A schedule of prioritised areas was circulated on the website and community social media groups. Community members can also notify the municipality of blockages on the WhatsApp number 067 012 9700 or call 010 496 5555,” said Montshiwa.

Meanwhile, the Randfontein Herald reported on August 7 that the municipality had its hands full and was battling with the high increase of recurring sewer blockages in different communities within its jurisdiction.

At the time, Montshiwa had said that the number of sewer blockages are the highest they’ve ever experienced. To view the schedule, residents can visit the municipality’s Facebook page.
