Residents of Mohlakeng still affected by power outages

This is due to a faulty electricity cable in the area which cannot be located at this stage, due to underground water that is interfering with the search.

Some residents of Mohlakeng Extension 5 are still without electricity due to a cable fault in the area.

This is according to Rand West City Local Municipality spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said underground water is bringing a halt to the process of locating the cable.

“People from our electrical department are hard at work trying to locate the faulty cable in the area but they are facing a challenge due to the underground water that is interfering with the search. They’ve been searching for the fault for a while now but the underground water is making it difficult to detect electricity flow changes. This makes it challenging for them to find the exact location of the fault, thus making the search even more difficult,” said Montshiwa.

He added that the municipality is awaiting a quote to replace the faulty cable with an overhead cable, to mitigate the issue of power outages in the area.

Montshiwa also said that residents of the area also joined the municipality’s team on the cable route to search for the fault but this was a fruitless exercise, as both teams could not find the cable in question.
