Attempted looting of ATM foiled in Park Street

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security responded to a string of incidents in Rand West City including a botched break-in to gain access to an ATM in Park Street.

Reaction officers from Mapogo A Mathamaga Security had their hands full this past week and reacted to a string of criminal incidents across Rand West City.

This was evident in their latest crime statistics which show that they responded to a total of six incidents dated from July 19 to July 23.

The security company’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen first spoke about a foiled ATM robbery in Park Street on July 19.

“Robbers attempted to break into a premises where an ATM was situated. They gained access through the ceiling but fled when the alarm went off.”

He also spoke about another incident that occurred in Station Street on the same day where perpetrators gained entry into a business premises and stole four 5-litre cans of oil as well as a speed point machine among other items.

On July 20, a thief was arrested for stealing a generator on Union Street, Randgate. The arrest was carried out by reaction officer Luigi Stidworthy who handed the individual over to Randfontein SAPS.

On the same day, the security company also responded to an incident on Kenneth Street, Greenhills where a perpetrator gained entry to a workshop and stole two toolboxes.

A similar incident also occurred on Smuts Street, Randgate on July 21 where a criminal gained entry by jumping over a perimeter wall and stole six outside alarm beams.

This is in addition to the massive foiled robbery that occurred at Tambotie Mall. The incident occurred yesterday (July 23) where three people were arrested for stealing cash and cellphones from a store inside the mall.
