Load reduction hits Randfontein on top of load-shedding

It just doesn't end. Rand West City residents have to brace themselves for load reduction despite stage 6 load-shedding already implemented.

Some residents of Randfontein and its surrounding areas have been dealt a heavy blow and have had to spend long hours without electricity due to load reduction implemented by the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM).

This is in addition to already being in the dark due to stage 6 load-shedding.

The Randfontein Herald spoke to the municipality’s spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa regarding the load reduction who said that they do apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause to residents.

He said that he will be in talks with the electrical department at the earliest opportunity and will release a schedule of the affected areas accordingly.

“I will be engaging with our electrical department as soon as possible and will find a way forward in terms of alerting residents of this issue. This will then be communicated accordingly, to allow them to prepare themselves accordingly,” said Montshiwa.

Meanwhile, the Herald has been inundated with phone calls from residents demanding answers regarding the electricity issues in their area.

Greenhills resident Kerushnee Moultrey said she had to spend hours on end without electricity despite it not being load-shedding.

“My electricity went out on Tuesday, July 11 at 18:00 and was only restored yesterday [Wednesday, July 12] at 16:00. This was way beyond our load-shedding schedule and it left us frustrated, to say the least. My husband works in Pretoria and I had to wake up at 04:00 yesterday to prepare water for him using our gas stove. My entire family had to bath in the basin, just so that we could get by for the day,” said Moultrey who added that her neighbours were equally frustrated.

Moultry is but one of the few residents who called in to complain about the lack of electricity for longer periods.

It is understood that residents in some parts of Mohlakeng also suffered the same fate.

The Herald will closely monitor any developments in this regard and will keep readers updated accordingly.
