Donations streaming in for the town’s ‘Pothole Man’

More money has been raised for Oom Piet and his team to continue their pothole mission across Rand West City.

Randfontein residents are fed-up with waiting on the municipality to fix potholes. They have thus decided to dig deep into their pockets and donate money to have the potholes in their areas repaired instead.

This was evident when residents, who stay at the Zebali Security Lodge townhouse complex, recently joined forces and contributed R5 200 in donations which was handed over to the town’s Pothole Man better known as Oom Piet Lottering.

Oom Piet is the town’s good Samaritan who goes around different areas with his team and fixes the potholes – free of charge. The streets that were focused on were Amandel Street and Darter Road in Greenhills.

“I saw a need in our streets regarding the potholes and decided to do something about it. I approached the businesses and the residents and asked if it was possible to donate money so that Oom Piet can help us. The minimum requirement per household was R50 and the response was phenomenal.

“While others made the donations, others didn’t due to financial restraints and some just didn’t want to donate but that didn’t deter us from the main objective, as we ended up collecting enough to help close the problematic potholes. As a result, I would like to take the opportunity to thank every person who contributed, my gratitude knows no bounds. What we accomplished and achieved with sheer determination and working together can change our environment, one street at a time,” said Jacky, who now challenges other community members to follow suit.

She believes that this will make a difference and improve the roads that motorists use daily.

According to Jacky, Olga de Andrade from Docville, Dr Pretorius from Muscle and Fitness Gym, and Lourens Biggs who is the trustee of Zebali went above and beyond what was expected and made huge donations.
