Residents from Toekomsrus, Pelzvale and Randfontein South are urged to brace themselves for the possibility of spending hours without electricity until 16:00 today (June 27).
This is according to Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa who said Eskom will be implementing a shutdown at a local substation to carry out maintenance work.

“Kindly be informed that Eskom requests a shutdown of one of their 10 MVA Transformers at the Westergloor substation between 08:00 and 16:00 on June 27. This will be to allow them to carry out maintenance work on the transformer. There is a possibility that some areas may have to be turned off if the substation’s load is high,” he said.
He added that residents will be kept up to date on the progress of the work being done and will be informed when the power is restored.
In the interim, residents are urged to switch off their non-essential appliances for the duration of the shutdown.
