Local farmer in ICU in USA, after being hit by a van

The 21-year-old has been working as a farmer overseas and was driving a quadbike when the incident occurred.

Resident Adriaan Taute is in hospital and is facing the possibility of having his leg amputated after he was hit by a van while crossing from one farm to another in a quadbike in Montana in the United States of America.

This occurred on Tuesday and news of this was confirmed by family spokesperson JP De Beer who said that Taute has been working as a farmer overseas.

Taute, who is 21 years old, is the son of Gauteng Red Meat Producers Organisation chairperson Jaco Taute and Susan Taute.

Speaking to the Herald, De Beer said Taute is in an intensive care unit and added that they are still in disbelief regarding the incident.

“We are shocked by the news that a van has crashed into him, and it seems that the consideration of amputating his leg is serious. We hope that the medical team will make a wise decision.

“This must be a very difficult time for Jaco and Susan, and we are thinking of them and sending sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for Adriaan and we wish him the best for his health and future,” said De Beer.

He added that they are trying to gather some funds through a fundraising initiative, that will help send Susan to Montana, to be with her son during this difficult time.

“I ask you today to open your hearts to the Taute family. We would like Susan to go to Adriaan in America and any donation for the family is welcome,” said De Beer who is appealing to people to also pray for the Taute family and the speedy recovery of Adriaan.

He added that the funds can be deposited into the following account:

Bank: FNB/RMB
Account Holder: Susan Taute.
Account Type: Easy Account.
Account Number: 63030814122
Branch Code: 250655.

Meanwhile, Adriaan made headlines in the media, after he was shot in a farm attack last year while he was on his way out of his parents’ family farm. He survived the attack.
