Local blanket manufacturer makes generous donation to keep winter at bay

Aranda Textile Mills made a generous donation of blankets to Clover Mama Afrika, which is a Corporate Social Investment initiative by Clover.

With winter currently upon us, Randfontein’s blanket manufacturer Aranda Textile Mills continues to spare a thought for those who need a blanket or two, to keep warm and keep the cold at bay.

This was evident when it made a generous donation of blankets to Clover Mama Afrika, which is a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) initiative by Clover, and this year marks over 18 years of receiving this generous donation.

Clover manager Professor Elain Vlok said that the Clover Mama Afrika Trust helped pack all the donated blankets so they could be ready and delivered to the various Mama Afrikas across the country.

“As always, this is such a welcome and generous donation from Aranda, and we are deeply grateful that they have continued to support us year-on-year with this warm donation.

“This makes a tremendous difference to many homes and is most definitely not a donation that is taken lightly by the Mama Afrikas and Clover Mama Afrika,” said Elain.

Clover Mama Afrika is Clover’s CSI arm and supports and upskills female community leaders nationwide.

It is also aimed at teaching and guiding strong females in communities all over the country, to build their skills, sustain and improve their own community projects.

Since its inception in 2001, the CSI initiative has appointed 58 Mama Afrikas and has since seen the project host 440 training sessions with over 2 313 beneficiaries over the years.

The women are referred to as Mama Africas due to their standing in their neighbourhoods. Most of them run their centres in rural areas.

According to Clover, only the most committed women are enrolled in this initiative, and these include women looking after orphans, the elderly and those suffering from HIV/ Aids.
