Drivers escape unharmed after taxi-bus crash on R28

The bus was transporting security officers to work and everyone escaped unharmed.

Traffic was heavily affected on the R28 in Mohlakeng on Monday morning, June 5 following a crash involving a taxi and bus.

The incident occurred at about 05:00 and no injuries were reported.

The Randfontein Herald was on scene and upon our arrival noticed both drivers of the vehicles on the side of the road, unscathed.

Speaking to the driver of the taxi, Tshidiso Mashiloane, he said that he was happy that no one sustained serious injuries.

This is the staff bus that was involved in the accident in question. It was transporting five security officers at the time and all of them came out unharmed.

“I was travelling from Randfontein and headed towards Westonaria when the incident happened. The driver of the bus was travelling on the slipway on Ngqonyela Street and drove onto the R28. He underestimated how near I already was.

“He thought I was still far, whereas I was already near and that’s when I bumped into him. I, unfortunately, couldn’t swerve to the right because there were cars in that lane,” said Mashiloane, who added that he was travelling alone at the time of the accident and was headed for the Vaal area.

Meanwhile, the driver of the bus was travelling with five security officers who were headed to one of the mines in Westonaria. He did not want to comment at this stage.
