These new shoes were made for walking

'Domestic workers raise doctors, lawyers and accountants, so they are important to me' – good Samaritan.

Mohlakeng’s good Samaritan Mandla Hamnca never runs out of good deeds to do, and has recently bought shoes for domestic workers.

Mandla is the founder of Proud Fathers, an NPO which helps the needy in different communities.

His mother, who has since passed away, was a domestic worker for more than 20 years and that is why he decided to embark on this project.

“My mother worked for a family in Greenhills and it is because of her hard work and dedication that we never lacked anything while growing up.

She sacrificed a lot and simply wanted to put bread on the table. Despite her hard work she still managed to feed us and ensured that we go to school and get an education.

“Domestic workers raise doctors, lawyers and accountants, so they are important to me. Domestic workers also at times have to walk to wherever they are employed and sometimes take taxis on rainy days and stormy weather all in the name of caring for their children,” said Mandla.

To show some appreciation, Mandla gifted domestic workers with 10 pairs of comfortable shoes because they spend most of their days on their feet.

He said that they were happy at the kind gesture and were thankful for his efforts.
