One hot cup of tea or coffee can make a difference

Mandla Hamnca from Mohlakeng took to the streets to give the homeless a hot cup of tea and coffee.

Mohlakeng’s good Samaritan Mandla Hamnca is at it again with another act of kindness, this time by reaching out to the homeless and treating them to a cup of hot tea and coffee.

This was on May 17 along Park Street in the Randfontein CBD where scores of homeless people converged.

The Herald spoke to Mandla, who is the Founder of Proud Fathers, a non-profit organisation. He said that he always spares a thought for those who are homeless, especially when it’s cold.

Mohlakeng resident Mandla Hamnca hands someone a nice hot cup of coffee.

“Winter is creeping in and I personally always spare a thought for those who are homeless. That’s why I decided to do this. I thought perhaps they could do with a hot cup of tea or coffee just to keep them warm in the cold weather.

“We are privileged to have heaters, blankets, and clothes in this cold weather but what about all these homeless people? One can only imagine how freezing it must be for them during this time of the year. I think this initiative will make a difference, even if it is just for one day,” said Hamnca.

He added that he will bring food for the homeless in the next few days and is looking at getting sponsorship for blankets to gift them as well.

The Herald also spoke to Mary Reiners who is homeless and said that she is happy to have received a hot cup of tea.

“I’m so excited to have gotten a cup of tea. It’s been a while since I’ve had one. It means a lot to us knowing that someone cares about us and thinks of us when the weather is this bad,” said Reiners.

She added that just having a cup of tea or coffee will go a long way in keeping them warm and making them feel that they are appreciated.
