Police officers from across the West Rand gathered at the Rivers of Living Waters Church in Westonaria on Tuesday, May 9 to pay their last respects to colleague Captain Modisa Rabapane.
He worked under the West Rand K9 Unit in Roodepoort.

According to Westonaria Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Audrey Sefara, Captain Rabapane met his untimely death on Thursday, May 4. She was one of many speakers who took the podium at the memorial service to praise him for dedicating his life to the community.

“Rabapane joined the service on January 16, 1987, and he had been in the force for 35 years prior to stepping down due to health issues in December last year. He was an energetic, jubilant, and refreshing person with a touch of happiness.
“While serving as a police officer, he achieved nine medals for his excellent work in the SAPS and is known for his hard work and dedication,” said Sefara.
West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana, his management as well as the unit commander for the West Rand K9 unit in Roodepoort Lieutenant Colonel Joey Bodibe also extended their heartfelt condolences to the Rabapane family.
They thanked the family for borrowing the service a hero who served diligently to uphold the law and protect the community and someone who shined proudly the badge of SAPS.
