Wheatlands elderly treated with knitted items

Tuesday Tonic's donated 36 blankets, a pair of bed socks, and a beanie to each resident.

A local knitting club named Tuesday Tonic’s donated knitted items to the elderly at the Wheatlands Community Care for the Aged on Tuesday, April 18.

One of the members Maritsa Nel said they knitted all of the items themselves and donated 36 blankets, and each resident also received a pair of bed socks and a beanie.

All the residents were very thankful for the donations.

Founder of the center Pauline Mokae said the center started as a non-profit organisation in 2017 and its mission was to save all the old residents living on the streets.

“We plan to accommodate 40 residents, but we don’t get any funding, only for food from one sponsor.”

She added that they need sponsors to help the vulnerable residents that stay there.

“Our plan is to expand and to build more structures to separate the males from the females and currently we also need clothing donations for the elderly,” said Mokae.
