The purpose of the event was to make the elderly citizens feel special and appreciated.

The elderly citizens from the Friendship Haven Old Age Home celebrated Good Friday in style by attending a special service that was held at the premises.

The event which took place on Easter Friday (April 7) was initiated by Reverend Carel Pienaar of the Randfontein-Wes NG church together with the old age home’s committee member Christa Breytenbach.

According to Breytenbach, the purpose of the event was to make the elderly citizens feel special and appreciated.

“The event was a success and truly amazing, to say the least. Previous to this, we had a special congregation service at the sick bay of the old age home which houses people who are ill and cannot walk. That’s when Reverent Pienaar initiated the event and said we should have a special service on Good Friday to show some love and appreciation.

“During this time we decided to paint Easter pictures and we then put them up just to create the Easter theme. We have a lot of people at the haven and although they are not all bedridden, they are somewhat weak. We just thought we should make them feel special.”

According to Breytenbach, the event attracted a total of 97 elderly who were also given tea and a hot cross bun at the event.

She added that the service was nothing short of beautiful and added that the staff at the old age home were also hands-on and assisted those that are frail in moving them around.
