Suspect killed as van blows up in another CIT in R’fontein

A suspect was killed after the CIT van he and others targeted blew up. This was during another CIT in Randfontein in just two months.

Police have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects in connection with a cash-in-transit heist that occurred at the infamous R28/ R41 intersection recently.

Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed the latest CIT occurred just before 18:00 on Wednesday, March 29.

“Police are searching for approximately six armed suspects following a Cash-In-Transit robbery. The suspects escaped in a black BMW 1 series after they took an undisclosed amount of cash, and no injuries were reported.

“It is reported, however, that when the explosives went off, the door of the vehicle blew off and hit one of the suspects, who died,” said Masondo.

Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist with the apprehension of suspects to please call the nearest police station or the Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

This was the second CIT heist in Randfontein within two months.

The Herald also reported recently that a group of armed robbers made off with an undisclosed amount of money after bombing a cash van at the R28/ R41 intersection in Randfontein on Friday evening, February 3.
