Operation Okae Malao yields another 196 arrests

This was through their crime prevention operations aimed at minimising and limiting the space for criminals to operate in and ensure that the community is safe.

Police officers from the 13 different stations in the West Rand are tightening the belt on criminals and have arrested a total of 196 suspects in the different areas across the region.

This was through their crime prevention operations from March 31 till April 2, which were aimed at minimizing and limiting the space for criminals to operate in and ensuring that the community is safe.

The operations included the famous Okae Molao operation that was held on April 1 from 7pm to April 2 at 01:00am under the command of the Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Marinda Theron.

During this time, suspects were arrested for a string of offenses which includes the following:
• One for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition
• One for contravention of Psira
• Twenty for theft
• Three for malicious damage to property
• Three for stock theft
• One for possession of stolen property
• Fourteen for possession of drugs
• Two for theft out of a motor vehicle
• Two for common assault, malicious damage to property, and theft
• Forty-three for drunk and driving
• One for business burglary
• Two for common assault under domestic violence
• One illegal immigrant dealing in liquor without a license
• One for intimidation under domestic violence, one for dealing drugs
• One for dealing in liquor without a license
• Nine for possession of suspected stolen property
• Five for housebreaking and theft
• Four for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
• Two for contravention of a protection order
• One for murder
• Three for possession of an unlicensed firearm
• Five for robbery, three for common assault
• Five for rape
• One for theft of a motor vehicle
• One for possession of dagga
• Three for loitering
• One for contravention of a protection order and malicious damage to property
• One for fraud

Minor offenses such as trespassing, shoplifting, and undocumented persons were also policed.

All arrested suspects will appear before their respective magistrate courts within the district soon.

The Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Marinda Theron thanked all members of the force for their hard work and for serving the community
