Child shot by stray bullet on playground

A man is yet to be arrested after he randomly opened fire, shooting and injuring a child in Zenzele.

An 11-year-old boy had to be rushed to hospital after being shot by a stray bullet while on a playground in Zenzele.

According to Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks, the incident occurred last Thursday, March 23.

“Police received a complaint at the Bekkersdal Clinic of a person who was shot in Zenzele. Upon our arrival, we found an 11-year-old boy that had been shot in the upper body by a stray bullet while on a playground. It has been alleged that on that specific day of the incident, there was a memorial service in Zenzele, where an unknown person was shooting randomly where a bullet hit the boy,” said Sergeant Hendricks.

She added a case of attempted murder has been opened and is under investigation.
