REM announces its leaders for 2023

The RCL at the school is made up of 40 learners who have shown exemplary behaviour at the school and are prepared to carry the good name of the school.

Randfontein Primary School (REM) has selected its batch of representative council of learners (RCL) for the 2023 academic year who are ready to hit the ground running with their set of duties.

The RCL at the school is made up of 40 learners who have shown exemplary behaviour at the school and are prepared to carry the good name of the school.

Only 10 of them however are part of the RCL executive, which essentially makes them the leaders of leaders.

Karabo Dielelwane (deputy head boy), Boikanyo Malinga (head boy), Angelique Berndt (head girl), and Onkarabetse Kgasoane (deputy head girl) are the chosen four occupying big positions in the school’s RCL.

Speaking to the Herald in an interview, a teacher at the school Tumi Sekhokoane said they are confident with the cohort chosen and look forward to the good work that they will be doing this academic year.

He spoke about how they cut.

“We are truly proud of the batch that we have chosen and we are confident in their abilities to carry out their duties. They were selected during a leadership camp where they underwent extensive training, exercises, and games, which helped us look at how we can holistically select those who are most suitable to be leaders and in which positions they will fit. We had to look at aspects of communication, integrity, teamwork, team cohesion and just being a person who loves the school and who is patriotic in their actions.

“I can assure you that the team we have chosen looks very positive and they are motivated. They want to work and they do things without having to be told and I think we will have a great year this year,” said Sekhokoane who added that he is very excited about the selection that they have made.

The school’s head girl is Angelique Berndt and the head boy is Boikanyo Malinga. They are responsible for the morning duty where they will ensure that the learners are walking in line and make sure there aren’t any fights in meetings during lunchtime.

The Herald spoke to them, to get a sense of how they are feeling regarding their new roles.

Berndt said she is excited but nervous at the same time.

“I’m very nervous and I don’t know what to expect but I’m very excited about this,” said Berndt.

Malinga also shared the same sentiments but expressed that he is ready to get down to work

“This means a lot to me. It means I have to bring my A-game in everything that I do. I’m going to put in the best I have for the school,” said Malinga.

While these two have been given superior roles, they will be assisted by their peers who will also receive duties of their own such as manning the corridors and tuck shop as well as other spaces.

They will be maintaining order and discipline and are also responsible for the fundraising of the school.
