A resident’s efforts of empowering local women are paying off and making a huge impact in the community, specifically Ward 3.
The project (started by Elsabie Jones) not only teaches people and specifically the elderly how to make their own blankets to keep warm for the winter ahead but does it allow them to make a living for themselves thus fighting unemployment.

Her vision has since inspired others and is being embraced by the Founder of Wheatlands Old Age Home Pauline Mokae who is also doing her part and passing down the skills to other locals in the area.
Speaking to the Herald in an interview, Mokae said she was also taught by Jones how to make blankets and added the initiative was welcomed by her and other locals in the area.
Elsabe Jones is the one who started this initiative and it was welcomed with open arms in the community. She sat us down as representatives from the Wheatlands Old Age Home and taught us how to make our blankets.
“Needless to say that this is very beneficial and came at the right time as we are heady towards the winter months. We have since also shown how thankful we are by supporting her vision and helping her with training other community members as well.

“This is because this initiative stands to be beneficial for all involved and can go a long way in eradicating the plague of unemployment,” said Mokae.
She added that Jones is planning on teaching residents from different areas how to make the blankets and said she too will be offering a helping hand.
