Randfontein Police hold school safety talk

A safety talk, aimed at discussing the scourge of gender-based violence, dangerous weapons, drugs, gangsterism and substance abuse was held a school in Wheatlands recently.

The Randfontein Police together with other relevant stakeholders including its victim-friendly room (VFR) team recently held a school safety talk at Setholela Primary School situated in Wheatlands.

Randfontein Police spokesperson Sergeant Carmen Hendricks said a lot of pertinent issues were discussed on the day.

“We went to the primary school in question and addressed a lot of issues. These include issues around bullying, theft, human trafficking and missing persons. We also spoke about the scourge of gender-based violence, dangerous weapons, drugs, gangsterism and substance abuse,” said Sergeant Hendricks.

She added that during this time, a total of 706 learners were reached and hopes that their message has had a meaningful impact.

According to her, the school’s principal Tebogo Tamapo was pleased with the visit from the officers of the law and the stakeholders and requested they visit more often.

Meanwhile, learners at the school were also requested to report abuse to their teachers who will contact the police or by contacting police on Crime Stop Number on 08600 10111

They were also informed that alternatively, information may be communicated via MySAPS App or SMS number 32211 and remain anonymous.
