W’aria school adopts their cop

The purpose of having the initiative is to encourage a conducive learning environment that is crime free.

Westonaria Intermediate School officially met their “adopted” cop when police visited the school together with other stakeholders last Wednesday, February 8.

The purpose of having the initiative is to encourage a conducive learning environment that is crime free.

The officer will be liaising directly with the school and will have crime-related problems at the school reported directly to him.

Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane said Captain Ryno van der Heever is currently the acting Vispol Commander at the Bekkersdal Police.

“The Captain took advantage of the visit and addressed learners on issues relating to their safety, bullying, substance usage, and how to conduct themselves in and outside school.

“Learners were also encouraged to wear their school uniform with honour and pride as it represents their school,” said Sergeant Lefakane.

She added that the school principal was also in attendance and was thankful for the visit.
