Greenhills couple weathers storm, still going strong

A young couple's marriage took a knock in 2020 during Covid-19 that almost ended in divorce. They even had to sell their cars and some belongings just to get by but today, they are stronger than ever.

Despite going through terrible moments in their marriage that nearly resulted in divorce, Lindie and William Maré withstood the storm and are now more in love than ever.

The two who started as childhood friends found their way into each other’s lives eight years ago. They then got married on February 21, 2015, and have been blessed with three children Danté, 7, Leighandru, 2, and Ilanré, 1.

Herald journalist Mbali Maqhwara decided to have a chat with the Maré family as part of the publication’s Valentine’s Day focus and we can attest to their love. Walking into their home, one feels a sense of warmth and we were met by two of their children who were having breakfast at the time. The third child was at school at that point and William was unfortunately at work.

Lindie explained to the Herald during an interview that while they are now inseparable, their marriage hasn’t been all sunshine and roses.

“We met when I was 11 years old and we were just friends at the time. We then lost contact as we grew older and he was even engaged at some point but later separated from his ex-fiancé. That’s when he sent me a message on Facebook and we started dating shortly thereafter and that’s how we found our way back to each other,” said Lindie.

She added that while they have been inseparable ever since they did encounter some challenges that almost ended up in disaster.
This was back in 2020 during Covid-19, a time that Lindie recalls as most challenging for her marriage.
During this time, William left his work to start up his business which had been going great ahead of the pandemic.

Things, however, then took a turn for the worst when the business went down, leaving their household without an income for months. Lindie had been taking care of the household at the time.

“Things were difficult for us and the financial pressure was mounting and making us fight from time to time. We were staying with my mother and sister at the time and the finances were taking a strain. I also fell pregnant with our second child, and it was a difficult time. We even had to sell our cars and some of our belongings just to get by,” said Lindie, who added they had been without an income for two years.

But this is now a thing of the past as the couple managed to bounce back after William got a job.

According to Lindie, things are now looking up.

The Herald caught up with William at a later stage and he is a man of few words. He shared the same sentiments with his wife and said he is thankful for his wife and children.

He said that their journey has proved to them time and again that they are meant for each other and that there is no one else he would rather spend his life with than Lindie and their boys.
