Armed intruders open fire as Mapogo responds to housebreaking

Mapogo A Mathamaga Security intervened during a housebreaking that ended in them being shot at. Fortunately, security did not sustain any injuries.

A housebreaking almost turned deadly in Helikon Park after an unknown number of armed intruders managed to gain access into a house in Helikon Park through an open window and opened fire at Mapogo reaction officers who responded.

This was one of the three serious incidents reported to Mapogo A Mathamaga Security for their client base in Rand West City for the period from Sunday, February 5 to Monday, February 13. According to the security company’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen, the incident took place at 03:57 on Monday, February 13.

“Mapogo armed reaction officers arrived on the scene and the suspects opened fire on the reaction officers and fled the scene. There were no injuries to the reaction officers and no arrests were made,” said Danie.

Details about other incidents:

1. Sunday, February 12 at 16:27 – Common theft in Beatrice Avenue, Homelake:

Suspects gained access to the premises and attempted to steal the gate motor but only managed to remove and steal the gate motor bracket.

2. Monday, February 13 at 08:00 – Attempted burglary in Village Street, Randfontein CBD:

Suspects cut the locks of a burglar gate but couldn’t gain access into the premises. No items were stolen.
