The clock is ticking for the Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) to restore power in parts of town as promised by tomorrow February, 10.

The Herald drove around town on February 8 and 9 and found the contractor (appointed by the municipality) carrying out the necessary repairs such as installing power lines and other electrical work in an open veld near the Lafarge substation.

RWCLM spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa issued a statement this week and said that work to restore Finsbury’s electricity was at an advanced stage.

He added that he was confident that the lights would be switched on, on the stipulated date.

“Based on the physical inspection done at the Finsbury substation on February 6, we are happy to inform you that work is at an advanced stage. We are also confident that electricity restoration should be done this Friday (February 10). The arrangement stipulated does not include Ten Acres due to the vandalism at the mini substation in the area.

“However, work to rehabilitate the mini substation is at an advanced stage and we hope to restore electricity next week Wednesday,” said Montshiwa who again, added that the municipality apologises for the inconvenience.

What this means is that residents of Ten Acres will have to play the waiting game a bit longer than residents in other areas.

Residents of Finsbury and its surrounding areas including Ten Acres have been without electricity for more than three weeks due to cable theft in the area.

The Herald will closely monitor developments in this regard and give updates when available.
